What is a bezel set engagement ring?
A bezel setting holds the diamond within a rim of metal. You may also hear it called a rub-over setting. A full bezel follows the stone’s outline, while a semi-bezel frames selected sides. Both create a different look from an open claw setting.
Choose your diamond shape
The bezel-set emerald cut pairs a defined metal frame with straight sides and step-cut facets. The elongated cushion bezel ring has a longer outline and softly rounded corners. The pear-shaped rub-over ring follows the diamond’s curved base and pointed tip. An elongated cushion and an emerald cut are different shapes; compare the outline as well as the facet pattern.
Is a bezel suitable for everyday wear?
The rim covers more of the diamond’s edge and offers a smooth outline that can be useful if you prefer fewer exposed claws. It is still fine jewellery: the setting height, fit and construction matter, and the ring should be checked and cared for regularly. A bezel does not make a ring damage-proof.
Does a bezel change the way a diamond looks?
The frame becomes part of the visible design. Its thickness, metal colour and relationship to the diamond affect the overall proportions. View the stone and setting together; the diamond’s cut and individual light performance also matter.
Can I create a bespoke bezel ring?
Yes. We can discuss band width, setting height, wedding-band fit and your preferred diamond or gemstone. Read our bezel setting guide, compare east-west designs, or enquire about a bespoke ring from £3,000.
