The Perfect Pair: Designing a Bespoke Wedding Band

Bespoke lab grown diamond wedding ring

When it comes to bespoke jewellery, every story starts with an idea. Sometimes it’s a design sketched out on a napkin. Other times it’s more of a feeling - something you can picture in your head but don’t quite have the words for yet. And then there are clients like Gemma, who walked into our Hatton Garden studio with a vision as clear as day.

Her mission? A bespoke lab grown diamond wedding band that would sit perfectly alongside her simple yet standout solitaire engagement ring. Not just ‘close enough’ or ‘that’ll do’ - she wanted a band designed as a seamless extension of her engagement ring. Flush, elegant, and full of sparkle.

This is exactly the sort of brief we love. Because when it comes to lab grown diamond wedding bands, sometimes the magic lies not in designing something that shouts the loudest, but in creating a piece that quietly complements - that fits so well it feels like the two were always meant to be together.

Step One: Our Client’s Vision for Their Bespoke Lab Grown Wedding Band

Gemma loved her engagement ring - a timeless solitaire that let the diamond do all the talking. But she knew she didn’t want her wedding band to feel like an afterthought. Too plain, and it would get lost next to the solitaire. Too bold, and it would compete.

She wanted something decorative but not over-the-top. A band that would enhance her engagement ring, not overwhelm it. And crucially, it had to sit flush. No gaps, no awkward angles - just a perfect, elegant pairing.

This is where bespoke jewellery really shines. Off-the-shelf wedding bands rarely consider the exact proportions, prong settings, or profile of an engagement ring. That’s why a made-to-measure band can make all the difference.

Step Two: From CAD to 3D Wedding Band

Once we’d talked through Gemma’s ideas, our designer sketched out the first CAD models. CAD is where imagination starts to take form - you can see the exact shape, scale, and arrangement of stones, all tailored to fit against the engagement ring like a puzzle piece.

But CAD alone isn’t always enough. Jewellery design is as much about feel as it is about visuals. That’s why we also create 3D print models of bespoke designs - essentially prototypes in resin that clients can try on before we make the real thing.

For Gemma, this step was invaluable. She slipped the mock-up onto her finger, stacked it against her solitaire, and immediately knew what worked… and what didn’t. We refined the angles, tweaked the flow of the decorative marquise and pear shaped lab grown diamonds, and made sure the fit was flush in every sense of the word.

Step Three: Sourcing Lab Grown Diamonds

The beauty of bespoke jewellery design is that no two diamond wedding rings ever turn out the same. For Gemma’s wedding band, we sourced lab grown diamonds that matched her engagement ring stone in cut, colour, and clarity.

Why does this matter? Because diamonds are like people - no two are ever exactly alike. By hand-selecting stones that match, we ensured her wedding band sparkled the same as her engagement ring.

We also paid attention to proportions. The band had to feel like a natural continuation of her engagement ring - not too chunky, not too slim. Every millimetre was considered, every diamond placed with purpose.

Step Four: The Big Reveal

The moment of reveal is as special for us as it is for the client. Because we’ve seen the journey - the first sketch, the 3D model, the back-and-forth discussions about diamond placement - and suddenly, there it is. A finished ring, made-to-measure, made to last.

For Gemma, the fit was everything. Stacked against her solitaire, the wedding band looked as though the two had always belonged together. Flush, elegant, and full of sparkle - just as she had imagined it.

Why Bespoke Wedding Bands Are Worth It

Gemma’s story is a perfect example of why so many of our clients choose bespoke for their wedding bands.

With bespoke, you’re not stuck with 'close enough'. You get a band designed for your ring, for your hand, your style, your story. And whether you want decorative lab grown marquise diamond accents like Gemma, or a minimal plain band with a hidden engraving, we make sure every detail is right.

We always say that jewellery design is a collaboration, and Gemma was the perfect collaborator. She came to us with a vision, trusted the process, and allowed us to bring her ideas to life step by step.

Beyond Wedding Bands

Of course, it doesn’t stop there. Our bespoke service extends to engagement rings, eternity rings, necklaces, earrings, bracelets - you name it. We’ve created everything from vintage inspired lab grown diamond engagement rings to colourful sapphire and emerald bracelets.

And just like with Gemma’s wedding band, the process is always the same:

  • Collaboration from the start.
  • Sketches and CAD designs to explore ideas.
  • A 3D print prototype to test and refine.
  • Hand-selected lab grown diamonds, sapphires and emeralds.
  • And finally, the real thing - crafted in precious metals by hand and made to last a lifetime and then some.
